Trump's victory putting pressure on Americans' search for Portugal properties

According to the real estate consultancy Athena Advisers, Donald Trump's victory in the recent elections could significantly benefit Portugal and Europe. They suggest that the region may again be viewed as a desirable destination for individuals seeking a fresh start abroad.

Athena Advisers analyzed Google Analytics data from the week before and after the elections, revealing that traffic to their global website's Golden Visa landing page increased by more than 26%.
According to an analysis of Google Trends conducted by a consultancy firm, the terms "Portugal Property" and "Portugal Golden Visa" have seen the highest search volumes in the United States over the past five years. These terms reached their peak popularity between November 3 and November 9.

The real estate consultancy believes that the rising demand for rental properties indicates that many Americans are seeking quick solutions to leave the country. Once in Portugal, they tend to analyze the city dynamics and the real estate market before deciding to purchase a property.

Niamh Erbek, Sales Director at Athena Advisers, noted that "the attraction to Portugal has always existed; the results of the recent elections have only intensified this interest." At the time of the elections, she was on a roadshow in New York. Erbek added, "Our clients view Portugal as a unique investment opportunity, enhanced by stable governance, cultural richness, and an appealing lifestyle."
“During my visit to the USA, I noticed that an increasing number of investors are drawn to the benefits of the Golden Visa, viewing it not just as a financial opportunity but also as a pathway to stability and improved quality of life".

Regarding the influence of politics, David Moura-George, the director of a real estate consultancy in Portugal, stated, "Politics is one of the most commonly cited reasons for the recent surge of American migration to Portugal that we have observed at Athena Advisers. Although Portugal and Europe face their own political and social challenges, including housing issues, the moderation of divisive rhetoric makes North Americans feel that Portugal is a refuge. They see it as a place that offers a stable environment, a highly regarded public healthcare system, and private healthcare costs that are significantly lower than those in the United States. Additionally, Portugal boasts excellent international schools." Moura-George added, "Despite the global price increase, the cost of living in Portugal remains appealing, especially when compared to major cities in the USA that many Americans are leaving."
